It is only logical that Jb and I do our own engagement photos. We're both photography enthusiasts: I take photos and edit them and he's highly enthusiastic to see the end product.
The tricky part was to produce the natural, casual feeling without the stiffness or overacting. My good friend who I shall call 'Ruffagrina' on this blog, also emphasized on avoiding the 'tourist' looks some people tend to put on when they have the camera in front of them and a nice scenic view in the background.
Anyhoo, here's what we have so far...
**my ultra favorite shot**
This was quite a hit when I posted it on facebook. It turned out beautifully, the original photos had some amazing colours all around us but because I wanted to enhance that *thing* going on between me and JB, I downplayed all the colors and the textures of the flora. Upon arriving at the location, I decided to call this set "Spring".
Frankston Beach. During the last few days of the Melbourne sun, we set out on taking our save the date photo. This was actually part of the the first set we did for our pre-wedding photos. There weren't any planning done on what shots will be made or props to be used. On the way to the beach I bought some random flowers ($12), called up my Sis-in-law to help us out and headed on our way for some spontaneous picture taking.
So the photo above is your typical beach scenario, walking hand in hand by the shore. So to kinda spice it up, 'kinda' being the operative word, the post-processing turned out like this:
I really like how the purple pops against the gray, white and black. I was hoping to minimize the mush of the photo but then just putting the word 'love' contradicts that goal. I like it still so there.
Here's a black and white pic from the "Spring" Set.
SAVE THE DATE! :)
So... going back to the Frankston beach shoot . We were in dire need of a Save the Date card already. So I super cropped the only one lucky photo of us lying down the sand, which was my impromptu idea. Just edited it a bit, and here it is.
The colours are too nice and crazy not to use. JB was hesitant to lie down on the sand, just when we were about to wrap up and head to dinner. Lucky I was, am, insistent. we got good responses on the STD emails I sent out. I tested my good friend 'Kristeta's' patience and have him approve the fonts and text colours.
After producing the "Spring" Set which was only our second attempt at our DIY engagement shoot, I realised we can have a seasons-themed engagement photos. It was pretty convenient too, living in Melbourne gives you up to four seasons in one day. So hopefully we have a few more trees and leaves left around the area so we can shoot the Autumn set of our engagement photos. I had a bit of drama with my 1st camera but all is better and sorted, so the DIY-ing continues!
